Game of Thrones - Juego de Tronos

Hello everybody! It’s been a while!

 Today I’m not gonna talk about photography (don’t worry, I will, soon enough) but about Song of Ice and Fire, known by Game of Thrones, the name of the TV show and the first of the books. Yes, with the name of this blog is was just a matter of time...

I’m half way in the books. Last week I finished the third one; by now, there are five of them published, although only four in Spain, with words from George R.R. Martin that there’ll be seven (although years ago he also said Song of Ice and Fire would be 3 books, so who knows…) Anyway, I’m not gonna talk about the books, or not much. Maybe another day I’ll review them (For now, I’ll just have a rest from George R.R. Martin and his Universe and read other things… Every book of his is like if I had read 3 average books; they are so long…) ...

 Hoy no os voy a hablar de fotografía (no os preocupéis, lo haré pronto) sino de Canción de Hielo y Fuego, conocida como Juego de Tronos, el nombre de la serie de televisión y el primero de los libros. Y sí, con el nombre de este blog era cuestión de tiempo...
Estoy a mitad camino en los libros. La semana pasada me terminé el tercero; por ahora, hay publicados cinco, aunque en España solo cuatro, con palabras de George R.R.Martin de que serán siete (Aunque hace muchos años también dijo que Canción de Hielo y Fuego serían tres, así que quién sabe...). De cualquier manera, no voy a hablar de los libros, o no mucho. Quizás algun otro día haga una revisión/crítica de ellos (Por ahora, voy a descansar de George R.R.Martin y su Universo y a leer otras cosas; cada uno de sus libros es como si me leyese tres libros normales; so tan largos...)...

I decided to write this article because of something, a interview to David Benioff, who I think is one of the writers of the TV show, that I read online. I read it in Spanish, and though I’ve searched for it in English, I haven’t found it…weird. Anyway, if you understand Spanish and want to read it, here’s the source:

Basically, it says:

Each season does not necessarily refer to each book. We are adapting “Song of Ice and Fire” as a whole.

 Básicamente, dice:

Cada temporada no es necesariamente cada libro. Estamos adaptando "Canción de Hielo y Fuego" como un "todo".

  

That makes sense with what was probably said before, that “ A Storm of Swords”, the third book, would be translated into two seasons, whereas the fourth and fifth book are gonna be probably turned into one season (or two, if it’s not possible to fit in one, what look actually pretty obvious) but with their plots mixed (If you haven’t read the fourth and fifth installments of this series, their plots go parallely, though it was too much to sum up in just on book). This is also commented in the interview.

Also, if you have read the books and seen the show, you’ll remember that the ending from the first book wasn’t exactly the ending of the first season, as it introduced the first pages of the second book, “A Clash of Kings”

Eso concuerda con lo que se dijo previamente, que "Tormenta de Espadas", el tercer libro, sería trasladado como dos temporadas, mientras que el cuarto y quinto libro lo serían probablemente como una (o dos, si no es posible meterlo todo en una, lo que en mi opinión parece bastante obvio) pero con sus tramas mezcladas (si no has leído el cuarto ni el quinto libro, sus tramas van en paralelo, pero era demasiado para resumir en un sólo libro). Esto también es comentado en la entrevista
Además, si has leído los libros y visto la serie, recordarás que el final del primer libro no es exactamente el final de la primera temporada, que te introduce las primeras páginas del segundo libro, "Choque de Reyes"

No he puedo el vídeo. He pensado que no todo el mundo los querría ver aún estando deseosos de poner sus manos en la nueva temporada, así que tendréis que hacer click en los links y verlos en youtube. Son apenas unos segundos de duración, excepto por un par de ellos, cerca de los dos minutos.

Most of us have read the first book or seen the first season. So what’s with this new one? As I said, I’ve just read the first three books. In my humble opinion, the third one is by far the best one, specially the second half. I won’t give much details, I want to stay spoiler-free if possible, but you get to see so many things happening that you can’t stop reading, specially Jon Snow’s chapters…damm, I love that character, at least in this third book; although is Brandon Stark who seems to be going to have a bigger role yet to be revealed (in the fourth book maybe? I wish)

 La mayoría de nosotros hemos leído el primer libro o visto la primera temporada. Así que, ¿qué hay de nuevo con ésta? Como ya he dicho antes, sólo he leído los primeros tres libros. En mi humilde opinión, el tercero es el mejor de lejos, especialmente la segunda parte. No daré muchos detalles, quiero evitar revelar cosas si es posible, pero pasan tantas cosas, que no puedes dejar de leer, especialmente los capítulos de Jon Nieve...leches, me gusta ese personaje, por lo menos en el tercero libro; aunque es Brandom Stark quien parece que tendrá un papel mucho más grande aún por ser revelado (¿en el cuarto libro? eso espero)

Anyway, I should be talking about this second season. The book introduces new characters (f.e. Melissandre or Ygritte) as new families (Greyjoy, not only Theon). However, I must confess that the second book turned out to be a little bit slow. Don’t get me wrong. It’s George R.R. Martin, it’s gonna be good, but in my opinion is not as good as the first one. Most of the books is just “preparation” for everything that happens at the end of the book and along all the third one…most of it started with the ending of first season…yes, that “incident” involving Ned Stark.

Of course, this is just my opinion about the book, haven’t seen this second season, but I’m sure it’ll keep the fans happy.

De cualquier manera, de lo que debería estar hablando es de esta segunda temporada. El libro introduce nuevos personajes (p.e. Mellissandre o Ygritte) y nuevas familias (Greyjoy, no sólo  Theon). No obstante, debo reconocer que el segundo libro resultó ser un poco lento. No me malinterpretéis. Es George R.R.Martin, va a ser bueno, pero en mi opinión no tan bueno como el primer. La mayor parte del libro es "preparación" de todo lo que ocurrirá al final de éste y a lo largo del tercero... la mayor parte de ello desencadenado  por el final de la primera temporada...sí, ese "incidente" con Ned Stark
Por supuesto, esto es sólo mi opinión sobre el libro, no he visto la segunda temporada, pero estoy convencido de que dejará contentos a los fans
