Advice Photography - Consejo Fotografía IV

It's been a while! I hope you haven't been waiting for this anxiously! I'm sorry, didn't have time to post till now! Here it is

¡Ha pasado un tiempo! Espero que no lo hayáis estado esperando ansiosamente. Lo siento, ¡no tuve tiempo de escribir hasta ahora! Aquí lo tenéis.

16-Look for the meaning - Busca el significado

It’s true that, several time, this meaning will be something personal, for you, and that not everybody would know what do you want to say with a photograph unless you tell them. However, I think you should be happy with your own, your work and what you’ve achieved. If someone want to know what a certain picture means to me, I’ll let them know, but I’ll be proud with myself for creating something that holds that meaning. When you have your camera and you go out, look for this meaning. It might be obvious, or just pure metaphore, but it’ll be yours. And I can assure you, the meaning and feeling certain picture holds to you, it will always be like that, not matter how long it was since you took that photograph.

Es cierto que, muchas veces, este significado será algo personal, para ti, y que no todo el mundo sabrá que es lo que quieres decir con una fotografía a no ser que se lo digas. Sin embargo, yo pienso que deberías estar feliz contigo mismo, tu trabajo y lo que has conseguido. Si alguien quiere ssaber el significado de alguna de mis fotos, se lo diré, pero estaré orgulloso conmigo mismo por crear algo que tenga ese significado. Cuando tengas tu cámara y vayas por ahí, busca estos significados. Pueden ser obvios, o pura metáfora, pero serán tuyos. I puedo asegurarte, que el significado y sentimiento que cierta foto tiene para ti, l tendrá siempre, no importa cuánto tiempo haya transcurrido desde que hiciste esa foto.

For instance, this one. I remember walking in the beach. The water reach my knees. I had been a few days away from my girlfriend I missed her. I don’t know where did it come from, but I saw this leave, heart-shaped, and took a shot of it. You wouldn’t have known the feeling if I hadn’t told it to you, but anyway, this picture will always mean something me

Por ejemplo, ésta. Recuerdo caminar por la playa. El agua me llegaba hasta las rodillas. Llevaba unos días lejos de mi novia y la echaba de menos. No sé de dónde vino, pero vi esta hoja, con forma de corazón, y la fotografié. No habríais sabido el sentimiento si no os lo hubiera dicho, pero de cualquier manera, esta foto siempre significará algo para mí

Here are a few more examples. The first one means “Going up” kind of thing. The second one would be “choices”.

Aquí algunos otros ejemplos. El primero significa "Hacia arriba" más o menos. El segundo, "decisiones".

These are others that I did after I realised that most of the leaves can get that heart-shape and can result in a very curious photograph!

Estas son otras que hice después de darme cuenta de que muchas hojas adquirían esta forma de corazón y daban fotos muy curiosas

17-Symmetry - Simetría

Well, the name says it all! Look for this. Where? Docks, buildings, path, roads… There’s not much to say here. Give your picture this sense of armony and equilibrium. Or, introduce something to break the armony. After all, rules are meant to be broken, and these things that I write… well, they’re not rules at all, just tips, so, feel free to create

Bueno, el nombre lo dice todo. Búscala. ¿Dónde? Edificios, caminos, calles... No hay mucho que decir aquí. Da a tu fotografía este sentido de armonía y equilibrio. O, introduce algo que rompa dicha armonía. Después de todo, las reglas están para romperse y esto que yo escribo...bueno, no son reglas después de todo, solo consejo, así que, siéntete libre para crear.

18-Suggest something better than show something- Sugerir mejor que enseñar:

There’s this movie maker, J.J.Abrams, relatively known. He’s the creator of LOST, and has directed two movies I want to talk to you a little, Super 8 and Cloverfield. These movies both have a monster/alien in their plot, but it is never shown fully, or not much. Instead, you only get gimplses of their bodies, or blurry images. That makes you feel you are part of the movie, as your mind “creates” the rest of what is still unseen, even if you don’t think about it Same thing applies to photography. Something ordinary, can become extraordinary if you don’t show it completely, so that everyone’s imagination can take part of your work. It works specially well for nude pictures. I must apologize, I don’t have any of those, if you were willing to see them.. Though I have others in which I suggets, and that I think can be shown here as examples of this tip.

J.J.Abrams es un director relativamente conocido. Es el creador de LOST y ha dirigido 2 películas de las que me gustaría comentaros algo, Super 8 y Cloverfield (desgraciadamente, en España se tradujo como Monstruoso). Estas películas tenían ambas un alien/monstruo como parte de su trama, sin embargo nunca se enseñaba completamente, o no mucho. En su lugar sólo se veían retazos de su cuerpo, o imágenes borrosas. Eso consigue que sientas que eres parte de la película, ya que tu mente “crea” el resto de lo que no se ve, incluso cuando no lo piensas. Lo mismo ocurre con las fotos. Algo ordinario puede convertirse en extraordinario si no lo enseñas completamente, para que sea la imaginación de cada uno la que tome parte en tu trabajo. Funciona especialmente bien para los desnudos. Debo disculparme, no tengo ninguno de esos, si lo estabais esperando… No obstante, tengo otros en donde sugiero y que creo que puedo poner aquí como ejemplo de este consejo
