| The Amazing Spiderman |
I don’t
really know what to think. I have mixed feelings about this one. It is probably
because Spiderman is the superheroe I grew up reading, and I expected more from
a film of him. Then there’s this thing, about rebooting the previous spiderman
saga when only 10 years have passed between the first one and this one and 5
years from the third one. Other superheroes have been rebooted before, like
Batman. But they never told an origin story of him untill Batman
Begins…However, I try to review this one as a stand alone film, and try not to
compare it with the previous ones (in a good or bad way) because I think it
would be unfair.
Realmente no sé que pensar. Tengo sentimientos ambiguos
sobre esta película. Probablemente sea porque Spiderman es el superhéroe con
cuya lectura crecí, y esperaba un poco más de él. Luego esta el hecho de que
hayan “reempezado” la saga de spiderman cuando sólo han pasado 10 años desde la
primera de la spelículas y sólo 5 desde la última. Otros superhéroes han “reempezado”
antes, como Batman. Pero realmente su origen nunca fue contado hasta Batman
Begins…De cualquier manera, intentaré hacer la crítica de esta película
considerándola por separado e intentando no comparar con las anteriores (en un
sentido bueno o malo) porque creo que sería injusto.
The Amazing
Spiderman tells the origin of this great character. How Peter Parker, a smart
and shy boy from Queens get some powers and how he learns to use them properly.
But within this story, lies something else. Peter was abandoned by his parents.
He has been raised by his uncle Ben and aunt May, but he lacks something in his
life, answers, about why did his parents leave him.
The Amazing Spiderman cuenta el origen de este gran
personaje. Como Peter Parker, un chico listo y tímido de Queens recibe estos
poderes y cómo aprende a utilizarlos correctamente. Pero algo más yace por
debajo de esta historia. Peter fue abandonado por sus padres. Ha sido criado
por su tío Ben y tía May, pero le falta algo en su vida, respuestas, sobre por
qué le abandonaron sus padres
That’s more or less the plot about this film. There were things I liked a lot, and other
I didn’t. I think I’ll begin with this last ones. (There may be SPOILERS from
here, so be aware of that)
Esto es, más o menos, el argumento de la película. Hubo
cosas que me gustaron muchas y otras que no. Creo que empezaré con estas últimas
(Puede que haya SPOILERS a partir de aquí, así que estáis avisados)
During all
the promotion of this film, we’ve read or heard about “the untold story”.
Apparently, Peter’s parents and the way he left would have a bigger role in
this one. However, they don’t. You see how the leave Peter behind, how he is
obsessed about that but none of the questions gets answered. Peter finds his
father suitcase and in it he finds his investigation. He was working in Oscorp,
and apparently it has something to do with how they left. This suitcase leads
Peter to Curt Connors, Peter’s father mate. Dr. Connors is missing one arm, and
it is his aim to recover it, trying to suceed in some interspecies genetics to
use lizards properties to get his arm regrowned. However, he and his team at
Oscorp are always failing at the same point, something about an equation. And
there goes Peters, with his father’ suitcase, and he solves it! But that’s the
only thing his parents have to do here (at least, apparently, but we’ll get to
that latter). That’s the first thing that dissapointed me a little. Why all
that promotion about the “untold story” if you are not telling anything?
There’s a
mid credit scene however, with Dr. Connors and someone we don’t get to know
exactly, where Peter’s parents are mentioned, so I supposed they have a bigger
part in the sequel and we’ll get some of this questions answered.
Durante toda la promoción de la película hemos oído o leído
lo de “la historia no contada”. Aparentemente los padres de Peter y su abandono
iban a tener un papel mayor en esta película. Sin embargo, no es así. Ves como
Peter es abandonado, como esta obsesionado, pero ninguna de las preguntas es
contestada. Peter encuentra el maletín de su padre y, en él, su investigación.
Estaba trabajando en Oscorop y, aparentemente, tiene algo que ver con cómo fue
abandonado. Este maletín conduce a Peter hacia Curt Connors, el compañero del
padre de Peter. El Dr. Connors no tiene un brazo y es su objetivo recuperarlo,
intentando tener éxito en aspectos de genética interespecia usando las propiedades
de los lagartos para hacer que su brazo vuelva a crecer. Sin embargo, él y su
equipo en Oscorp fallan siempre en el mismo punto, algo que ver con una ecuación.
Y aquí llega Peter, con el maletín de su padre, y lo soluciona! Pero eso es
todo lo que los padres tienen que ver aquí (o eso parece por lo menos, aunque
ya llegaremos a eso). Esto es lo primero que me decepcionó. ¿Por qué toda la
promoción sobre “la historia no contada” si al final no cuentas nada?
Hay una escena después de los créditos, sin embargo, en el
que el Dr. Connors y alguien a quién no vemos exactamente, mencionan a los
padres de Peter, por lo que supongo que tendrán un papel mayor en la segunda
parte y tendremos alguna de las preguntas contestadas
There’s
another thing I didn’t like much, but it also about the promotion. During the
trailers and the TV spots, I’ve seen scenes that are not featured in the film
and I can’t stand that. Why do you show me something, if I won’t be able to
see?
Hay otra cosa que no me gustó, pero también tiene que ver
con la promoción. En los trailers y los anuncios he visto escenas que luego no
salen en la película y no lo aguanto. ¿Por qué me enseñas algo que no voy a
poder ver?
Another
thing that annoyed me was Uncle Ben’s murderer. We all know he was a thief and
that Peter seeks out for him. Here, he does it as well, and find some randoms
who turned out not to be this murderer. However, at some point, he just forgets
about him. I think this murdered and what happens with him in the comics is a
important part in Peter’s development as Spiderman and I wish they would have
finished that story arc

Otra cosa que me molesta es el asesino de Tío Ben. Todos
sabemos que era un ladrón y que Peter va detrás de él. Aquí, también lo hace, y
encuentra a algunos que al final no resultan ser este ladrón. De cualquier
manera, en cierto momento, se olvida de él. Y creo que este asesino y lo que
pasa con él en los comics es una parte importante del desarrollo de Peter como
Spiderman y me habría gustado que hubiesen terminado ese arco de la historia
However,
these films has good things, of course! All the actors are greatly chosen.
Andrew Garfield plays this tender teen who feels alone, and has a strong
chemistry with Emma Stone (Gwen Stacey). Rhys Ifans surprised me as well.
Although at first I didn’t like the looks of his alter-ego, the Lizard (here it
is featured without snout, which in mi opinion would have given him a wilder
look) it did change my mind during the film, because the design, allowed Rhys
Ifans to put more of his character in it. Aunt May and Uncle Ben actor also
played its parts correctly, though I would have like more screen time of them
both
De cualquier manera, esta película también tiene cosas
buenas, por supuesto. Todos los actores están muy bien elegidos. Andrew
Garfield (Peter Parker) interpreta a este joven tierno que se siente solo y
tiene una gran química con Emma Stone (Gwen Stacey). Rhys Ifans me sorprendió
también. Aunque al principio no me gustaron las pintas del Lagarto, su
alter-ego, (aquí diseñado sin “morro”, pero que en mi opinión le habría dado un
aspecto más salvaje) mi opinión fue cambiando durante la película, porque este
diseño permitía al actor “poner” más de su interpretación. Tía May y Tío Ben
también están correctamente elegidos, aunque me habría gustado que salieran más
en la pantalla.
I’ve talked
before about the Lizard and Curt Connors. This is, in my opinion, one of the
greatest things of the film. The bad guy, is not really that bad. In many
films, the villain is just that, a villain, with evil intentions. Curt Connors
aim is not bad, is just to help people. But the means he uses to do so may not
be the best. You don’t get to hate him during the film. You may not understand
him, you may not agree with him, but it is shown during the film that what he
tries to achieve he does it for the best of humanity, not himself…although he
might lose control from time to time. There’s a scene which I find that showns
this properly. Gwen Stacey is hidden in the lab when the Lizard cames. She
attacks him with fire. But instead of hurting her, or kidnap her (like baddies
tend to do in these films, they kidnap the girl and then the good one has to
rescue her) he just leave her alone, because he knows her, and the doesn’t want
to her her.

He hablado antes de El Lagarto y de Curt Connors. Este es,
en mi opinión, uno de las mejores cosas que tiene la película. El malo de la
peli no es tan malo. En muchas cintas, el villano es sólo eso, un villano, con
malas intenciones. El objetivo de Curt Connors no es malo, sólo ayudar a la
gente, aunque quizás la manera que tiene de conseguirlo no sea la mejor. No
llegas a odiarle durante la película. Puede que no le entiendas, que no estés
de acuerdo con él, pero se muestra a lo largo de la película que lo que intenta
conseguir lo hace por el bien de la humanidad, no por si mismo…aunque puede que
pierda el control de vez en cuando. Hay una escena que creo que refleja esto
adecuadamente. Gwen Stacey está escondida en el laboratorio cuando el Lagarto
llega. Ella le ataca con fuego. Pero en vez de herirla o secuestrarla (es lo
que tienden a hacer los malos, secuestran a la chica para que venga el bueno a
rescatarla), simplemente la deja en paz, porque la conoce y no quiere hacerle
daño.
There are a
couple of things I liked a lot as well, that I’ll try to coment more briefly. Spiderman
character is very faithful to the comic book character. When he wears the mask
he has this acid humor that we all have seen in the cartoons. But he is also
very faithful as Peter Parker. There’s this scene, he gets home after fighting the
Lizard, with blood and exhausted, almost crying. Aunt May stands there, worry.
He put his hand inside his bag and you think he is gonna take out his mask and
show it to Aunt May. But you can figure she already knows. Instead, he takes
out some ecological eggs (you’ll understand when you see the film), showing he doesn’t
forget about her. That was simple, but touching. Another thing, fights.
Spiderman is supossed to be agile as a spider. And here, he is. Very well
coreograph fight scene with a great one in Peter’s highschool. And you can’t
forget about the humor. This film has plenty.
Hay un par de cosas más que me gustaron y que intentare
comentar más brevemente. El personaje de Spiderman está muy bien adaptado del
comic. Cuando lelva la máscara tiene este humor ácido que hemos visto en los cómics.
Pero también como Peter Parker es muy fiel al comic. Hay una escena, llega a
casa después de luchar con el Lagarto, con sangre y agotado, casi llorando. Tía
May está ahí, preocupada. Mete la mano en la mochila y piensas que va a sacar
la máscara y enseñársela a Tía May. Pero ya puedes imaginarte que ella lo sabe.
En su lugar, saca unos huevos ecológicos (ya lo entenderás cuando veas la película)
dando a entender que no se olvida de ella. Era simple, pero conmovedor. Otra cosa, las peleas. Spiderman es,
supuestamente, ágil como una araña. Y aquí, es así. Peleas muy bien
coreografiadas, con una especialmente espectacular en el instituto de Peter. Y
no te puedes olvidar del humor, esta película tiene bastante.
After all,
I still don’t know what to think. It is true, the more I think of the movie,
the more a like it. In this film, few time Peter is called “Spiderman”, but in
my opinion, it is the story that this movie tells (not only Uncle Ben’s death)
what teaches Peter what it is to be a superhero, and how he finally turns out
as a Spiderman. He isn’t Spiderman untill the end of the film, even though he
may have worn the suit and the mask.
Después de todo esto, aún no sé qué pensar. Es cierto que,
cuanto más pienso, más me gusta la película. En ella, Peter pocas veces es
llamado “Spiderman”, pero en mi opinión esto es porque es la historia que la
película cuenta (y no sólo la muerte de Tío Ben) lo que enseña a Peter lo que
realmente significa ser un superhéroe y como al final termina convirtiéndose en
Spiderman. De hecho, no es Spiderman hasta el final de la película, aunque haya
llevado el traje y la máscara.
